What is SafeSample™?

SafeSample™ is a collection and transport device that inactivates SARS-CoV-2 and other viruses and kills bacterial and fungal pathogens that may be present in the specimen. This eliminates the requirement for BSL-2 protocols in the clinical lab, lowering the complexity of the workflow. SafeSample allows for room-temperature transport and storage of samples, thus eliminating the need for cold chain transportation and cold storage in the clinical laboratory.

During pandemic surges, local labs and resources may be overwhelmed. Our lab has been authorized to import samples inactivated in SafeSample from anywhere in the world, thus allowing us to provide testing services to overwhelmed countries with a 24-hour turnaround time. This means health officials can easily allocate resources and send samples wherever they can be processed.

RNA, a molecule that carries genetic information in certain viruses, is unstable and can easily degrade or break down. It's critical for RNA to remain intact as it is the very molecule that is detected in diagnostic tests.
